JOIN US: How to Navigate Sport & Recreation with Juvenile Arthritis

Cassie & Friends is dedicated to transforming the lives of kids and families living with Juvenile Arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. Today, we are thrilled to announce the launch of a new program that will bring this mission to life: RunForIt — a groundbreaking series of educational talks and supportive meet-ups for kids, young adults and families.

RunForit will start as a pilot program for the 6-weeks leading up to the Scotiabank 5k & Half Marathon Charity Challenge where Team Cassie + Friends will run for kids with arthritis for our 10th consecutive year. After that, we hope to expand the program much further in the future!

Our first session is Sunday, May 14th at 10:30am.  If you are in or near the Surrey area, please join us! You can RSVP to jennifer@cassieandfriends.ca or on our Facebook event page.  There is no cost to attend.

About this session

How to navigate the world of sport and recreation with arthritis

We are so thrilled to announce that Kadi Nicholson, Physiotherapist and ex national-level gymnast, will be leading a special session for us to  share tips and ideas for how young adults and children can stay active – and even pursue elite sport – while living with conditions such as Juvenile Arthritis. Kadi will share her own journey with JIA to highlight the proper training and communication needed to ensure you or your child can take part fully in physical activity and sport.

You and your child/teen will learn:

  • How you and your child can talk about their symptoms to coaches and teammates
  • Exercises to help prevent sport and running injuries
  • Tips on how to lead a physically active lifestyle – for your child with arthritis and the whole family
